Burning

Sadly, so much of what’s happening currently isn’t unthinkable, but it is unwatchable. It’s despicable and grotesque. There’s no way around it, just through it and getting through it is going to require continued vigilance and pressure. It requires indomitable passion and resilience, a stubbornness to stand for and with a pulsating kindness. We need actions — hard, transformative and humble actions — but I believe in words too. I think words have kept us in this mess. Specific, pointed words have been slung to wound. They’ve been gripped by fearful, small people, to provoke and oppress. The right words themselves won’t fix anything, but words of love and warmth can at least let some light in.

INTRODUCING MOEMS :: Ever wanted someone to write a funny, sad, interesting, weird, anecdotal, meandering thinker of a prose poem meant only for you? That someone can be me. Ever wanted a different someone to maybe write that poem in his world famous cursive and throw a couple of his iconic artistic touches on it? That someone could be Johnnie Cluney of Daytrotter/Lopiez and billboard fame. Ever wanted famous Raccoon Motel and Codfish Hollow MC Mike Steele to shout your name and inscription and then read you this poem? Well, obviously, that could be Mike Steele. 

MOEMS are these prose poems, these petting zoos of real feels, suitable for framing, and they come in three a la carte tiers. They'll read like snapshots written over fries and beers, like feverish Wesley Willis and Daniel Johnston drawings, like scenes from Sideways, Spaceghost Coast To Coast, WWF Royal Rumbles or a night spent in the guest bedroom of a Raymond Carver short story, like Mark Twain or Phil Hartman calling you in for dinner. 

TIER ONE :: Send me a list of three albums you love and three books/authors you also love. This will just be source material with no guarantee that the poem will have anything to do with any of it. You'll get a raw version of the poem, with scribbles and words crossed out, sections added in the margins. And a clean, finished version in my handwriting, inscribed and dated, mailed to you. $25

TIER TWO :: You get the raw version of the poem and a finished version done in Johnnie Cluney's signature handwriting, along with some artistic flair. For instance, if a strawberry is mentioned in the poem, there may be a cute little strawberry in the border. All of this done on a real classy paper stock. Mailed right to you. $40

TIER THREE :: You get the raw version of the poem. You get the Johnnie Cluney treatment from tier two AND you will get an mp3 of Mike Steele shouting your name and reading the poem to you and since you'll have the recording, you can listen as many times as you'd like. $55
